Friday of the First Week of Advent
Reflection Questions
"And out of gloom and darkness, the eyes of the blind shall see. The lowly will ever find joy in the LORD, and the poor rejoice in the Holy One of Israel." What keeps us from seeing the light and goodness around us? Are you able to find the joy in God even in the midst of darkness? Does the darkness sometimes seem easier to be in than the light? How can we move towards the light this Advent?
"When his children see the work of my hands in his midst, They shall keep my name holy; they shall reverence the Holy One of Jacob, and be in awe of the God of Israel." What is your reaction when you realize God's work and presence in your midst? How do you keep God's name holy? What do you think it means to show reverence to God?

"Wait for the LORD with courage; be stouthearted, and wait for the LORD." What does it mean to wait with courage? Does it help to receive encouragement in the waiting? What are you waiting for and looking forward to right now?
"[Jesus said,] 'See that no one knows about this.' But they went out and spread word of him through all that land." When you receive something exciting and amazing in your life, is it hard not to share the news with others? When was the last time you shared what God was doing in your life with excitement and joy?
Prayer
God of joy, be our light in the midst of the gloom and darkness in our lives. Help us always to keep holy Your name and show reverence for You in the choices we make. Open our eyes to Your goodness and teach us to wait with courage for healing and comfort. Stir within us excitement and joy at Your good works within us. The Lord is our light and salvation!
